The Queer History of Vampires — live event on Oct 14, 2026

The Queer History of Vampires at The Blues Kitchen Brixton, London on Wed, Oct 14, 7:00 PM. Tickets from $16. Lineup, start time and tickets on Ckord.
Explore the hidden queer history of vampire mythology, from folklore to modern pop culture. Followed by Q&A. Why has the vampire, more than almost any other monster, become such a powerful symbol for queer identity? From the earliest folklore to the gothic literature that shaped the genre, vampires have long embodied themes of forbidden desire, transformation and otherness – themes that resonate deeply with queer experience. In this talk, we'll explore how vampire mythology has been shaped by, and has shaped, ideas about sexuality, gender and identity across history. We'll trace the queer subtext running through classic vampire literature and film, right up to the more openly queer vampire narratives of today – asking what it is about this particular monster that keeps drawing us back, and what it reveals about desire, difference and belonging. Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7:30pm - come down early to grab a good seat!
