U2 is an Irish rock band formed in 1976, known for their anthemic sound that blends post-punk roots with elements of alternative rock. Influenced by artists like The Clash and The Ramones, U2's music often features the distinctive, echo-laden guitar work of The Edge and the passionate vocals of Bono. Their sound is characterized by socially conscious lyrics and expansive, atmospheric arrangements, which have been a defining aspect of their albums such as "The Joshua Tree" and "Achtung Baby."
