The Stooges are an American rock band formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1967. Known for their raw, energetic sound, they are often credited as pioneers of punk rock. Their music is characterized by a blend of garage rock and proto-punk elements, with heavy, distorted guitar riffs and aggressive vocals from frontman Iggy Pop. Influenced by blues and early rock and roll, The Stooges' minimalist approach and rebellious attitude set the groundwork for the punk movement of the late 1970s.
