The Ruts were a British punk rock band formed in London in 1974, active primarily through the late 1970s and early 1980s. Their sound combined punk's raw energy with reggae and ska influences, creating a distinctive style that set them apart from their contemporaries. Led by vocalist Leigh Duggan, the band was known for socially conscious lyrics addressing themes like unemployment and social inequality. Their 1979 album "The Crack" remains their most recognized work, featuring the hit single "Babylon's Burning." The Ruts disbanded in 1984 following Duggan's death, though they have reunited periodically since the 1990s.
