The Monks — artist
The Monks were a rock band formed in the mid-1960s by American GIs stationed in Germany. Known for their avant-garde approach, they blended garage rock with proto-punk elements, characterized by raw energy, unconventional rhythms, and minimalist instrumentation. Their sound was heavily influenced by the burgeoning rock scene of the time, as well as experimental music, resulting in a distinct, stripped-down style. Their 1966 album "Black Monk Time" is often cited for its innovative use of feedback and percussive techniques.
