Soft Machine is a pioneering band in the progressive rock and jazz fusion genres, originating from Canterbury, England, in the late 1960s. Known for their experimental approach, they blend elements of rock, jazz, and psychedelia, characterized by complex time signatures and improvisational passages. Influenced by avant-garde jazz and the burgeoning psychedelic scene, their sound is defined by the use of electric keyboards, intricate drumming, and a freeform structure.
