Shearwater is an American indie rock band from Austin, Texas, formed in 2001. Their sound blends post-rock atmospherics with art rock sensibilities, characterized by layered instrumentation, dynamic arrangements, and introspective songwriting. The band draws influence from progressive rock and experimental music while maintaining accessible melodic structures. Their work is defined by orchestral arrangements, often featuring strings and horns alongside traditional rock instrumentation. Albums like "Animal Joy" and "Jet Plane and Oxen" showcase their evolution toward more expansive, emotionally resonant compositions.
