His smooth tenor voice and emotive delivery became a signature element of the group's sound, particularly on ballads and uptempo tracks produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Tresvant's solo career, launched in the late 1980s, showcased his ability as a vocalist and songwriter in contemporary R&B. His musical style blends elements of soul, funk, and pop, reflecting the new jack swing movement that dominated urban radio during that era.
