Pretty Lights is the electronic music project of Derek Vincent Smith, a producer and DJ based in Colorado. His sound blends elements of hip-hop, funk, soul, and electronic music, characterized by heavy use of sampling and live instrumentation layered over electronic beats. Smith is known for his innovative approach to live performance, often incorporating live musicians and visual elements alongside DJ sets. His work draws influence from classic soul and funk records, which he recontextualizes through a modern electronic lens. Pretty Lights has released several studio albums and is recognized for pioneering a style that bridges underground electronic music with broader hip-hop and funk audiences.
