Pansy Division is an American punk rock band formed in San Francisco in 1991, known for being one of the first openly gay punk bands in the genre. Their sound combines straightforward punk rock with humorous, often sexually explicit lyrics that address queer identity and experiences. Influenced by classic punk and new wave, they brought an irreverent, comedic approach to punk that challenged both mainstream rock conventions and conservative attitudes within punk itself. The band's DIY ethos and willingness to tackle taboo subjects helped establish them as pioneers in queer punk rock, with their most recognized work coming in the 1990s and early 2000s.
