Neurosis is an American post-metal band from Oakland, California, formed in 1985. Their sound blends heavy metal with post-rock atmospherics, characterized by layered guitars, dynamic song structures, and introspective lyrics that often explore themes of human struggle and resilience. The band's influences include Black Sabbath, Melvins, and post-punk acts, which they synthesized into a distinctive approach that emphasizes crescendos and textural depth over traditional verse-chorus structures. Albums like "Through Silver in Blood" (1996) and "The Eye of Every Storm" (2004) established them as influential figures in the post-metal genre. Neurosis is also known for their elaborate live performances and collaborative approach to songwriting.
