Mayer Hawthorne is an American singer, songwriter, and producer known for blending soul, funk, and R&B with contemporary production techniques. Born Andrew Mayer Heninger, he emerged in the late 2000s with a sound rooted in 1970s and 1980s soul and funk influences, drawing comparisons to artists like Marvin Gaye and Prince. His work is characterized by smooth vocals, grooved instrumentation, and introspective lyricism that balances retro aesthetics with modern sensibilities. Albums like "A Strange Desire" (2009) and "Where Does It End?" (2011) established him as a thoughtful interpreter of classic soul traditions adapted for contemporary audiences.
