Lucy Kaplansky is a Chicago-born, New York–based folk singer-songwriter celebrated for her warm, emotive vocals and deeply honest songwriting. She began performing in Chicago clubs as a teen before joining the vibrant NYC folk community alongside artists like Shawn Colvin and Suzanne Vega. After earning a Ph.D. in psychology and briefly pursuing a career in mental health, she returned to music with her debut album The Tide in 1994—produced by Colvin—and gained acclaim for her solo works and harmony-driven supergroups like Cry Cry Cry and Red Horse.Over the decades, Lucy has released ten solo albums—most recently The Lucy Story in January 2025—a rich collection that spans folk, bluegrass, jazz, and classic pop, reflecting her evolving artistry. Her music blends intimate acoustic textures with storytelling depth, earning her a beloved place in the modern folk landscape.
