Liturgy is an American black metal band from New York formed in 2005, led by guitarist and vocalist Hunter Hunt-Hendrix. The band blends black metal with experimental and avant-garde elements, characterized by complex rhythmic structures and dissonant guitar work that departs from traditional tremolo-picked melodies. Their sound draws influence from second-wave black metal bands while incorporating progressive and noise rock sensibilities. Key releases include "Aesthethica" (2011) and "The Ark Work" (2015), which showcase their evolving approach to the genre. Liturgy is known for challenging conventional black metal aesthetics through their emphasis on technical innovation and theoretical framework.
