Level 42 is a British pop and funk band formed in 1980, known for their sophisticated blend of funk, pop, and jazz influences. The group, led by brothers Mark and Phil Radcliffe, built their sound around intricate bass lines, often performed by Mark King, combined with smooth vocals and polished production. They achieved major commercial success in the 1980s with hits like "Something About You" and "Running in the Family," which showcased their ability to merge funk grooves with accessible pop sensibilities. Their style drew from funk pioneers like James Brown and incorporated elements of soul and new wave, defining much of the sophisticated pop-funk sound of the decade.
