Kula Shaker — artist

As anyone who has seen them in the flesh could tell you, Kula Shaker’s live shows are less like gigs than bona-fide happenings… communal gatherings of like-minded souls where the bilateral flow of positive energy feels powerful enough to levitate the Royal Albert Hall. Reformed permanently in 2021, this time around, the 2023 message is more amplified than ever. This is in no small part because, in a development Kula konnoisseurs have long dreamed about, keyboard wizard Jay Darlington has returned from a decade with Oasis and various Gallaghers, therefore reuniting all four original members of the band’s classic line-up for the first time since 1999’s ‘Peasants, Pigs & Astronauts’. “It was one of those fortuitous moments of synchronicity,” says Crispian of this latest chapter in the band’s illustrious history. “When we first reformed in 2007, Jay was still in Oasis, so that was a moment which passed. At the end of last year, the unpredictable, intertwining paths of fate brought us back together. Also, back in May of last year, our original management team of Kev Nixon and Sarah Clayman took over again, and so we’ve got the whole crew back together from when we made our [platinum-selling] debut album ‘K’. “There’s an excitement and momentum you feed off in these situations. Two days after Jay did his first official gig back with us, at Shepherd’s Bush Empire on December 8th, we were in the studio working on new songs.”
