Jerome Sabbagh is a prolific saxophonist and forward-thinking composer with a deep connection to the jazz tradition. Born in Paris in 1973, he has been based in Brooklyn, New York, since 1995. Over his career, he has recorded nine albums as a bandleader.Albums & Key ProjectsLatest Release: His most recent album, Vintage (Sunnyside, 2023), features original compositions and standards. It showcases intimate duets and a quartet setting with legendary pianist and NEA jazz master Kenny Barron, alongside Joe Martin and Johnathan Blake.Longstanding Quartet: Active since 2004, his group featuring Ben Monder, Joe Martin, and Ted Poor has released three albums: North, Pogo, and the critically acclaimed The Turn (listed among the best albums of 2014 by the Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, DownBeat, Ottawa Citizen, and France Musique).Standards & Trio Work: He recorded One Two Three, an album exclusively devoted to standards, in a saxophone trio setting with Ben Street and Rodney Green.Collaborative Groups: Sabbagh co-leads the electric project Plugged In (with Jozef Dumoulin, Patrice Blanchard, and Rudy Royston), the Jerome Sabbagh/Greg Tuohey Group (which recorded No Filter), and performs in the collective trio Lean with Simon Jermyn and Allison Miller.Freer Explorations: His album I Will Follow You is a freer project featuring European drum legend Daniel Humair and Ben Monder.Sideman Work & CollaborationsSabbagh holds the distinction of being one of Paul Motian's last saxophone players.
