Fruko — artist
Fruko has 2 upcoming shows, next at The Regent Theater on Tue, Oct 27. Dates, venues and tickets on Ckord.
Fruko is a Colombian trombonist and bandleader who became a central figure in the development of salsa music during the 1970s and 1980s. Leading the group Fruko y Sus Tesos, he helped define the sound of Colombian salsa through tight horn arrangements and a rhythm section grounded in cumbia and mambo traditions. His style blends Caribbean and African rhythmic elements with jazz-influenced horn work, creating a sound that emphasized ensemble cohesion over individual soloists. Fruko's production and arrangement work extended beyond his own band, influencing the broader Latin music landscape and establishing him as a key architect of salsa's golden era.
