Derrick Morgan is a Jamaican ska and reggae pioneer who emerged in the late 1950s and became one of the genre's earliest recording artists. Known for his smooth vocal delivery and energetic stage presence, Morgan helped define the sound of early Jamaican popular music during the ska and rocksteady eras. His 1960 hit "Honour Your Mother and Father" and later tracks like "Tougher Than Tough" became influential recordings that shaped reggae's development. Morgan's style blended Caribbean rhythms with rhythm and blues influences, and his prolific output across several decades made him a foundational figure in reggae history. His work remains significant in tracing the evolution from ska through rocksteady to reggae.
